  • Welcome to Marigold Veterinary!

This document is designed to provide you with information about our services and allow us to treat your pet. Please read it carefully and let us know if you have any questions.

Dr. Eve Harrison is licensed as a Western/conventional & integrative veterinarian.

    • Conventional Medicine, as practiced in the United States, is a system that uses pharmaceuticals and surgery as the primary modes of therapy.

    • Integrative Medicine refers to a system that uses naturally derived medications such as herbal medicine, vitamins, minerals, enzymes, nutraceuticals, and acupuncture, in combination with Western medicine as needed to promote and restore a healthy balance to the body.

Because Dr. Eve Harrison is dually trained, she is qualified to determine whether the use of holistic medicine, integrative medicine, conventional medicine, or a combination would be best. Acupuncture and holistic medicine are not intended to replace traditional veterinary care, but are considered integrative and complimentary therapies, to be used concurrently and in conjunction with traditional veterinary care and recommendations of your animal’s primary veterinarian.

    • Physical Exam: Since your pet cannot express their symptoms verbally, a physical exam is essential to determine the issues and their extent. Also, in order to be able to prescribe/refill medications and make medical recommendations, a physical exam within 12 months is required for all veterinarians in the state of California. Likewise, for any change in medical status, or for the onset of a new health problem, an updated physical exam is required for Dr. Harrison to be able to make appropriate medical recommendations and prescriptions.

    • Acupuncture and integrative modalities: Acupuncture, (use of thin sterilized needles), Stimulation of those needles by electric stimulation (e-stim), application of heat in the form of moxibustion, massage, acupressure, herbal therapies, essential oils, vitamins, minerals, enzymes, therapeutic movement, Micro-Biome Restorative Therapy, subcutaneous fluids, injectable medications, Pulsed Electromagnetic Field Therapy (PEMF), as well as behavioral and dietary counseling. Most conditions will take 6-9 acupuncture treatments to see optimal improvement.

    • Herbal Medication: We may recommend herbal substances and although natural, they may result in adverse effects; including but not limited to: vomiting, diarrhea, loss of appetite, abdominal discomfort and possible aggravation of symptoms existing prior to herbal treatment. Should your pet experience any problems associated with these substances, please stop administering them and contact Marigold as soon as possible. Furthermore, several trials of herbal medicines may be needed to identify the best-suited medicines for the animal.

You may ask questions or raise concerns at any time during treatment and we will make reasonable efforts to give you all information possible in order to make informed decisions regarding the duration and appropriateness of continued care. You may stop treatment at any time.

Integrative treatments are not a substitute for the regular/primary veterinary care provided by your veterinarian in a clinic or hospital, and that you are seeking these treatments under the approval of that veterinarian. Marigold Veterinary is a separate entity from any other veterinary hospital or clinic and Dr. Eve Harrison may also work occasionally as a traditional relief veterinarian.

Lastly, an integrated approach may not be as rapid as pharmaceutical or surgical therapy, in that it may require more effort from the caretaker as compared to the simple administration of medication. Each animal is inherently unique and will respond to treatment in unique ways. Unfortunately, there is minimal research supporting the clinical efficacy of acupuncture and other integrative techniques. Marigold Veterinary or Dr. Eve Harrison make no promises or guarantees of cure or result of treatment.

  • Thank you for choosing acupuncture and integrative care for your companion animal. My intention is to share resources with you from a unique vantage point as a veterinary acupuncturist and integrative practitioner regarding animals, evidence-based veterinary medicine, health, and wellness for you and your pets. We aim to inspire and uplift you in celebrating our connection with animals. We feel success when you feel supported in your role as the primary caregiver for your companion. Our goal is to empower you to provide the greatest well-being for your pets.

We work with a different paradigm than what your pets may have previously experienced in veterinary clinics. We prioritize a sense of safety and ease for your animal in their home, a fear-free experience. By personally working with families, we are able to hold space to support you as well, in a special and personal way that is not possible in the clinical atmosphere.

This paradigm of practicing veterinary medicine may not appeal to everyone, and at the same time, it is rare that a person or animal that we have worked with has not received some benefit. We look forward to developing a professional yet very personal relationship with you and your family. Below is a list of prices and services to allow you to plan for us working together. Note that prices are subject to change at any time.

*Please provide recent medical records and any other communications (x-rays, blood work, exam notes from your regular Veterinarian) via e-mail to DrEveHarrison@gmail.com or info@marigoldveterinary.com prior to our first appointment.

    Pricing and time schedule:

1.) TRAVEL FEE *Travel fees account for time spent in traffic, searching for parking, and gas expenses.

Locations within Dr Harrison’s primary territory = < 5 miles of travel from Dr. Harrison’s home base in Culver City
Travel fee is included in consultation fee Travel fee for secondary locations (5-10 miles travel each way) $25 (round trip)
Travel fee for tertiary locations (>10 miles travel each way) $45 (round trip)

2.) INITIAL HOUSE CALL consultation: $249 +/- travel fee. We typically spend 1.5 - 2 hours with a family during the first visit getting to know you and your pet in a relaxed way. Initial consult includes: exam, complete evaluation (Traditional Chinese as well as Western Medicine evaluations, review of medical records, lab work, x-rays, and specialist reports), discussion of recommendations, treatment plan, answering questions, setting up your online pharmacy account, three follow up email/text consultations, and treats for your pet!

Most, but not all, patients have acupuncture treatments (included in house call fee) with Dr. Harrison.

  • On the first day of an acupuncture appointment, we typically do a mini session (two or three needles at first for a few minutes) to see if your pet will tolerate acupuncture.

  • If it creates fear or anxiety, he or she may not be a good candidate to have acupuncture or even benefit from it - and we can decide together if it seems like a good fit.

  • If acupuncture isn’t a good fit, we can still work together, just in a different way. I am somewhat selective to make sure we all have a good patient/client/vet connection before I initiate work with a family.

  • 3.) SUBSEQUENT HOUSE CALLS - $175 +/- travel fee

  • Rechecks, follow ups, wellness exams, weekly acupuncture sessions

  • Includes 2-3 non-urgent medical problems, up to 60-minute visit

  • We limit our services by what can be safely and adequately performed within a home-care setting.

4.) Any additional pets examined, consulted on, or treated are an additional $100 per pet

5.)Package pricing. Acupuncture provides the greatest benefit when used as a long-term modality*, and packages will save you a significant amount of money in the long run. Following the initial consultation, Dr. Harrison offers special customized packages for your companion based on her holistic evaluation of your pet and their needs, as well as where you are located.

*Typical acupuncture patients receive follow up treatments ranging from once per month to several times per week. Acupuncture treatments are recommended 1-2 times per week initially, then usually taper to once per week, then every 2 weeks, and then once per month for maintenance once the issue is resolved. Essentially, the schedule is dictated on the needs of the pet and their caregivers.

6.) Each Initial Consultation comes with 3 e-mail or text responses from Dr. Harrison within a month of the appointment. If continuous e-mail/text, phone, and telemedicine questions are requested beyond this, Dr. Harrison is happy to accommodate your needs, however there may be additional charges (see Dr. Harrison’s consultation rate below).

These services are meant to be mutually beneficial for both parties; Dr Harrison can provide you with the excellent compassionate ongoing support you and your pet need, while also being compensated for the extra time spent helping you with your pet’s care.

7.) This service is offered for follow-up to existing conditions and is for your convenience. It is not a substitute for a physical exam and veterinary visit. An in-person examination of your pet must have been performed within the past 12 months.

8.) Veterinary e-mail/communication support packages- up to 6 e-mail or text consultations and two <15- minute phone/video chat calls (good for one year but is renewable within the year if further support is requested) - $249 This is a good option if:

  • This service is not intended to extend to texts or e-mail questions about pets of friends or neighbors.

  • 9.) Cash, check, credit card, Venmo, and PayPal are acceptable forms of payment. Payment is expected on the day of service (or in advance for a package). Payment is non-refundable after services have been performed.M

10.) Partially used packages are non-transferable and expire after one year. Pre-paid packages can be terminated by Dr. Harrison or Marigold Veterinary at any time for any reason, including disrespectful communication, harassment, threats, cyberbullying towards any doctor or staff member of Marigold Veterinary, or if the caregiver repeatedly disregards medical recommendations in a way that endangers an animal. We reserve the right to remove you from the service if you are taking advantage of the communication systems. If termination of a package is necessary, there will be a pro-rated return of payment for any unfulfilled treatment or telemedicine sessions. Our work together is meant to be nurturing and rejuvenating for everyone involved, therefore disrespectful behavior will not be tolerated by Marigold Veterinary under any circumstances.

By initialing below, I acknowledge and understand the foregoing, and my questions have been answered regarding the content of this document.

  • Marigold Veterinary is not a full-service veterinary clinic, so we recommend keeping a relationship with a veterinarian in a clinic or hospital setting for your pet’s primary care., Dr. Harrison can recommend respected veterinarians if you need.

Marigold Veterinary DOES provide a very specialized and personal service for you and your companion, which is meant to be complementary to the services offered by a Western veterinary clinic. Dr. Harrison takes extra time and care to treat each pet as though they were her own. She sees you and your family as individuals with very personal needs and styles of decision making. When she treats an animal, she does not see just their disease- she sees the whole animal, their personality, as well as the needs of their family, and that is what she addresses as a veterinarian.

Marigold Veterinary does not provide emergency or after-hours service. Our hours are M-F 9am-7pm and are subject to change. We will make every effort to provide support and answer questions during business hours at times outside of our house call sessions when available. It is important to understand that it is your responsibility to have a backup emergency service if we are with another patient or not available by phone, text, or e-mail.

Dr. Harrison is grateful for the privilege of being able to alleviate and prevent suffering in animals every day, and in order to maintain the sustainability of her practice as a professional caregiver, she knows that she needs to be nourished and cared for herself. In order to continue to provide high quality compassionate care every day for her patients and their caregivers, the concept of healthy boundaries is honored in Dr. Harrison’s practice.

Dr. Harrison knows very personally how difficult it is to care for a sick pet or to lose a beloved companion. It is common for caregivers to become upset with themselves, or even with their veterinarian around the illness or loss of a pet. Please know that Dr. Harrison will always do everything in her power to provide the best support for you and your pet. Yet, she is only human, and as such, she cannot ultimately reverse biology or death, or know when exactly that moment will be.

Marigold Veterinary does not offer euthanasia. If euthanasia, end of life consultations, surgery, dental work, x-rays, ultrasound, or health certificates for international travel are needed, Dr. Harrison can direct you to trusted veterinarians who can provide these services. Dr. Harrison believes that grief counseling is very beneficial during these difficult times and recommends Sandra Grossman as a wonderful resource: http://www.petlosspartners.com/
