Micro-Biome Restorative Therapy

There are hundreds of microbial species that normally live in our gastrointestinal tracts that work in a symbiotic balance to allow the body to stay healthy. Studies have shown that the microflora of the gut can influence an individual’s weight, genetic expression, immune function, and risk of chronic and acute diseases. When there is an imbalance leading to overgrowth of certain microbial species due to antibiotics, pesticides, and inflammatory conditions, illness can occur.

Micro-Biome Restorative Therapy is a way to reset the immune system of an animal and support gastrointestinal and overall health. MBRT is known in human medicine as a Fecal Microbiota Transplant, which is the reconstitution of normal flora by a stool transplant from a healthy individual. In humans, it is most often prescribed to treat serious infectious diseases such as Clostridium difficile (C.diff).

MBRT aims to reintroduce a new biome from a healthy donor dog or cat to reestablish the hundreds of microbial species that are needed. The MBRT is administered as either a capsule or an enema. Donors are healthy dogs and cats who live clean life-styles, are fed healthy diets, and screened regularly for intestinal parasites.
