  • Welcome to Marigold Veterinary! This document is designed to provide you with information about our services and allow us to treat your pet. Please read it carefully and let us know if you have any questions.

Dr. Eve Harrison is licensed as a Western/conventional & integrative veterinarian.

    • Western Medicine is a system that uses pharmaceuticals and surgery as the primary modes of treatment.
    • Integrative Medicine is a system that uses natural treatment such as herbs, vitamins, minerals, enzymes, nutraceuticals, and acupuncture, along with Western medicine.

Because Dr. Eve Harrison is trained in multiple modalities, she is qualified to determine whether the use of holistic medicine, integrative medicine, Western medicine, or a combination of these options would be most appropriate for your pet. Acupuncture and holistic medicine are not intended to replace traditional veterinary care, but are considered integrative & complementary treatments, to be used concurrently and in conjunction with Western and traditional veterinary care and recommendations of your animal’s primary veterinarian.

    • Physical Exam: Since your pet cannot express their symptoms verbally, a physical exam is required to determine the issues and their extent. Also, in order to be able to prescribe/refill medications and make medical recommendations, a physical exam within 12 months is required for all veterinarians in the state of California. Likewise, for any change in medical status, or for the onset of a new health problem, an updated physical exam is required for Dr. Harrison to be able to make appropriate medical recommendations and prescriptions.
    • Acupuncture and integrative modalities: Acupuncture, (use of thin sterilized needles), Stimulation of acupuncture needles by electric stimulation (e-stim), application of heat in the form of moxibustion, massage, acupressure, herbal therapies, essential oils, vitamins, minerals, enzymes, therapeutic movement, fecal transplants, subcutaneous fluids, injectable medications, Pulsed Electromagnetic Field Therapy (PEMF), as well as behavioral and nutritional consulting. Most conditions will take 6-9 acupuncture treatments to see optimal improvement.
    • Herbal Medication: We may recommend herbal therapies and although they are considered "natural", these can still lead to adverse effects; including but not limited to: vomiting, diarrhea, anorexia , abdominal discomfort and possible worsening of any symptoms that exist. If your companion animal experiences any problems in association with these substances, please stop administering them and contact Marigold as soon as possible. Additionally, several trials of herbal medicines may be required find the best match for the animal.

You may ask questions or raise concerns at any time during treatment and we will make reasonable efforts to give you all information possible in order to make informed decisions regarding the duration and appropriateness of continued care. You may stop treatment at any time.

By signing this document, you agree that you understand that integrative treatments are not a substitute for the regular/primary veterinary care provided by your veterinarian in a clinic or hospital, and that you are seeking these treatments under the approval of this veterinarian. Marigold Veterinary is a separate entity from any other veterinary hospital or clinic where Dr. Eve Harrison may also work occasionally as a traditional relief veterinarian.

Finally, an integrated approach may not be as fast as the use of pharmaceuticals or surgery. Frequenly the application of holistic medicine can require more time & effort from the caregiver. Each animal is inherently unique and will respond to treatment in unique ways. Unfortunately, there is minimal research supporting the clinical efficacy of acupuncture and other integrative techniques. Marigold Veterinary or Dr. Eve Harrison make no promises or guarantees of cure or result of treatment.

  • Marigold Veterinary Fees & Policies
    • Thank you for choosing Marigold Veterinary house call & concierge service for your companion animal. Dr. Harrison’s intention is to share resources with you from a unique vantage point as a veterinary acupuncturist and integrative practitioner regarding animals, evidence-based veterinary medicine, health, and wellness for you and your pets. We aim to inspire and uplift you in celebrating our connection with animals. We feel success when you feel supported in your role as the primary caregiver for your companion. Our goal is to empower you to provide the greatest well-being for your pets.
    • We work with a different paradigm than what your pets may have previously experienced in veterinary clinics. We prioritize a sense of safety and ease for your animal in their home, as well as a fear-free experience. By personally working with families, we are able to hold space to support you as well, in a special and personal way that is not possible in the clinical atmosphere.
    • This paradigm of practicing veterinary medicine may not appeal to everyone, and that is ok. For the families that we have worked with for many years in this way, we are confident that the level of care we provide has far exceeded their expectations. We look forward to developing a special relationship with you and your family. Below is a list of prices and services to allow you to plan for us working together.

  • What to Expect

Marigold Veterinary is not a full-service veterinary clinic, so we recommend keeping a relationship with a veterinarian in a clinic or hospital setting for your pet’s primary care. Dr. Harrison can recommend respected veterinarians if you need.

Marigold Veterinary DOES provide a very specialized and personal service for you and your companion, which is meant to be complementary to the services offered by a Western veterinary clinic. Dr. Harrison takes extra time and care to treat each pet as though they were her own. She sees you and your family as individuals with very personal needs and styles of decision making. When she treats an animal, she does not see just their disease- she sees the whole animal, their personality, as well as the needs of their family, and that is what she addresses as a veterinarian.

Marigold Veterinary does not provide emergency or after-hours service. Our hours are M-F 9am-7pm and are subject to change. We will make every effort to provide support and answer questions during business hours at times outside of our house call sessions when available. It is important to understand that it is your responsibility to have a backup emergency service if we are with another patient or not available by phone, text, or e-mail.

Dr. Harrison is grateful for the privilege of being able to alleviate and prevent suffering in animals every day. In order to maintain the sustainability of her practice as a professional caregiver, she knows that she needs to be nourished and cared for herself. In order to continue to provide high quality compassionate care every day for her patients and their caregivers, for the benefit of everyone involved, the concept of healthy boundaries is honored in Dr. Harrison’s practice.

Dr. Harrison knows very personally how difficult it is to care for a sick pet or to lose a beloved companion. It is common for caregivers to become upset with themselves, or even with their veterinarian around the illness or loss of a pet. Please know that Dr. Harrison will always do everything in her power to provide the best support for you and your pet. Yet, she is only human, and as such, she cannot ultimately reverse biology or death, or know when exactly that moment will be.

If euthanasia, end of life consultations, surgery, dental work, x-rays, or ultrasound, are needed, Dr. Harrison will direct you to her trusted veterinarian colleagues who provide these services.
